Hi everyone! How’ve you been? Thank you for your interest in my kusikus weaving workshops. I finally found some time to sit down to do all of…this. lol
I wasn’t planning on teaching 1-on-1 workshops until the winter, but due to some interest (s/o to everyone I met at the ‘Rise Up!’ event by Rise Tribe earlier this month), I opened up a few workshops in August!
For most of this month and July, I will be busy focusing on personal weaving projects where I’ll be using materials I brought back from my Philippines trip this past winter. These materials include cotton yarn grown and prepared in Ilocos Norte and a variety from Ilolo: abaca (fibre from a plant related to the banana), cotton, abaca-cotton blend and piña-cotton blend yarn. It’s been a slow, meticulous process but it’s all good. Very daunting as well, not gonna lie. But what’s that saying? Anything worth doing takes time? Something like that.
Also, weaving aside for a quick minute - most folks here who are interested in weaving may not know this about me, but I paint murals and do street art from time to time. I’ll be a part of a collaborative project at the Stanley Greene Skatepark at Downsview Park (June 22-23) and at the end of July, I’ll be working on a collaborative mural with Caitlin Taguibao that’s inspired by the culture of care found in Filipinx communities. Both projects are supported by StART (Street Art Toronto). For updates and process on those murals, tune into my Instagram stories!
